Learn more about the best options for your home, and then contact our team to schedule your installation. If you’re still unsure which one is right for your home, our team will be happy to recommend the right one. The two main types of smoke detectors include the following:
- Ionization Smoke Detectors – An ionization smoke detector has a constant current between two electrodes. When smoke interrupts the current, it triggers the fire alarm. Ionization smoke detectors respond quickly to house fires and are relatively affordable. However, they are battery-operated, which will need to be replaced. Ionization smoke detectors cannot differentiate smoke from steam, which can lead to false alarms.
- Photoelectric Smoke Detectors – Photoelectric smoke detectors trigger when smoke enters the unit and scatters the internal light. They provide better detection for smoldering fires than ionization smoke detectors. However, when the batteries on a photoelectric smoke detector die, it will not alert you.
